Linksys WUSB54G V4 Driver Download for Windows 7 x64 bit & Vista

This is a not a typical marketing, social media and/or IBM post. Just wanted to share a fix that I had created for anyone else who is stuck with below average Linksys support for WUSB54G driver for 64 bit OS.

I recently decided to test Windows 7 64 bit on a computer I had lying around. To my surprise, the install was very smooth, most of the hardware was detected automatically and the whole process was completed in less than an hour.

The only catch was that I have a Linksys WUSB54G Wireless-G adapter on this computer (I know PCI based Wifi card would’ve been better). For a box that I barely use, I refuse to invest in Ethernet wiring or a better wifi adapter. Of course, Linksys doesn’t support x64 platforms at all. Let’s not even mention Windows 7. Luckily, the manufacturer of the chip set does, RAlink, kinda, I’ll explain this later.

Here’s how to run Linksys WUSB54G on Windows 7 or Windows Vista 64 bit.

Download the rt2500 driver, since its not linksys, modify the setup info to match the new device ID and few other parameters and you are set. Or I could spare you the 2 hours of hair tearing web research that I spent on this and will just include it in a package that I’ve created for other souls looking for a driver which works on Windows 7 64 bit, Windows XP 64 Bit and most likely Vista x64.

Download the Linksys WUSB54G driver package here:
Linksys Driver for WUSB54G V4 x64 on Windows 7 and Vista 64Bit (41438)

Don’t worry about Windows calling the adapter a different name. Enjoy.

Over 1300024K! of you have been successful in prolonging the use of this adapter. If you are satisfied, please consider donating $1 to $5. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the local Toronto based charity of my choice (I’ll balance it out). It’s the least we can do! At least we are lucky enough to be worried about drivers. Many others are seeking food, shelter, protection instead.

Hi, I tried to install this in xp 64 but I'm getting the error message "the specified location does not contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the location contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with windows for x64-nased systems." What am I doing wrong?
  • What version is your device?

I hate to cast aspersions and certainly don't want to offend someone who has made such a useful contribution to the Community of Users, but how can we be assured there is not spyware or malware in this hack?
  • Hundreds of comments and thousands of downloads later. You still doubt me?
;) It's a zip file with no exe files. Just the driver .inf package.

Im still getting an issue with Win7 not conecting with my WUSB54G. Ive downloaded the file and ran it like normal, right clicked on it and updated drivers however it quickly promps the nxt screen and tell me it cant find the drivers. Yes im selecting the driver i want to install but nothing. I dont know if this has anything to do with it, but after i plug in the WUSB54G, under device manager it shows up not under the network catagory but another. And it doesnt say Linksys wireless G adapter, it says missing with the little icon nxt to it. does this mean its a driver issue or more like a firmware issue. i dont know how old my WUSB54G is but I do know it isnt a v4 i think its a v2. but yea, no matter wat i cant get it to connect. Any additional support?
  • Yes, it will only work with V4. There are no drivers out for V2 as far as I
    know.
  • Mr.Macduff
Bilal, thank you very very much! This driver worked prefectly.
  • Mr.Macduff
Me again. Hey, do you think you should add installation instructions to your read me file? Just an idea I had reading the comments that are posted on this site.
  • Good idea, if anyone can write up proper instructions, I'll add them to the package and on the post. Sorry, way too stretched with work these days.
  • ahmed

Thank you! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'm a poor student, and i was starting to worry that I had to blow my budget by buying a new adapter. If I had the money (maybe in the future) I would donate a cuple of bucks to you easily! (..sorry)
  • Joe
Bilal, thanks a ton for posting this. I was beginning to pull my hair out trying to configure the drivers until I stumbled upon this. Fixed the issue in a pinch.

I have my adapter on my XP PC and the router is on my Windows 7 PC. I have read the comments, but do not understand how to load the drive. I assume I load it on the XP adaptor PC, but how?

  • This isn't for XP. Get the XP driver from their site. I'm also not sure why your router is specifically connected to Windows 7 computer.
  • Phred Meetwater

Do you have a fix for Win 7 Pro, 32 Bit and the Linksys WUSB54G wireless adapter?????
  • FriGiN
Win7x64 has been driving me insane.. i have to move my USB devices around (which makes #2, #3, #4, and drives me up the wall) and eventually the same end happens to EVERY last device at one point or another. One USB device will Disconnect/Reconnect/DC/RC/DC/RC/DC/RC/DC/RC/DC/RC in a never ending cycle. First time it happens it comes back for a couple hrs, then its an hour, then a little while, then minutes, then i'm lucky if the device connects at all its just cycling downward. Its infuriating. So I decided to pop my trusty ubuntu 9.1 in to my drive and DESTROY the madness. I'm finding out that this isn't actually the ralink 2500 its actually the ralink 2750. Now i know your first kneejerk reaction is how do we know that its the Wireless. Simply put its been disconnected, straight wired for over a week and 0.. not one.. ZERO times has one of my usb devices failed. I reconnect it tonight and boom my external HDD goes offline less than 3 mins after connection. Could the difference between the 2500 and the 2750 be what our problem is? its enough to connect it.. but not enough to stop it from going insane? I have the WUSB54Gv4 Ubuntu (after a mild amount of coaxing) connected beautifully, windows 7x86 works no problems (tried it on another pc just to see.) but again square one with x64. You seem to have wrote the book here, whats your $0.02 tellin you?
  • Sean
thank you for your time and effort to provide us with a solution!
  • this actually made me have to do a restore on my computer! the driver crashed windows 7.
  • Sue
Thank you so much. Worked perfectly on Windows 7 and my WUSB54GS v.4. Saved me lots of frustration!
