Linksys WUSB54G V4 Driver Download for Windows 7 x64 bit & Vista

This is a not a typical marketing, social media and/or IBM post. Just wanted to share a fix that I had created for anyone else who is stuck with below average Linksys support for WUSB54G driver for 64 bit OS.

I recently decided to test Windows 7 64 bit on a computer I had lying around. To my surprise, the install was very smooth, most of the hardware was detected automatically and the whole process was completed in less than an hour.

The only catch was that I have a Linksys WUSB54G Wireless-G adapter on this computer (I know PCI based Wifi card would’ve been better). For a box that I barely use, I refuse to invest in Ethernet wiring or a better wifi adapter. Of course, Linksys doesn’t support x64 platforms at all. Let’s not even mention Windows 7. Luckily, the manufacturer of the chip set does, RAlink, kinda, I’ll explain this later.

Here’s how to run Linksys WUSB54G on Windows 7 or Windows Vista 64 bit.

Download the rt2500 driver, since its not linksys, modify the setup info to match the new device ID and few other parameters and you are set. Or I could spare you the 2 hours of hair tearing web research that I spent on this and will just include it in a package that I’ve created for other souls looking for a driver which works on Windows 7 64 bit, Windows XP 64 Bit and most likely Vista x64.

Download the Linksys WUSB54G driver package here:
Linksys Driver for WUSB54G V4 x64 on Windows 7 and Vista 64Bit (90058)

Don’t worry about Windows calling the adapter a different name. Enjoy.

Over 2459K! of you have been successful in prolonging the use of this adapter. If you are satisfied, please consider donating $1 to $5. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the local Toronto based charity of my choice (I’ll balance it out). It’s the least we can do!

At least we are lucky enough to be worried about drivers. Many others are seeking food, shelter, protection instead.

Now I know :| a better way is to put in Windows/system32/drivers….. because if i do so in device manager, it suddenly becomes problematic saying that the driver wasn’t successfully installed

  • Marlon

Thanks, this really works, it take me time to find your blog. Thanks again.

    • http://www.bilal.ca/ Bilal Jaffery

You welcome, can you let me know what keywords were you using on the search engine?

  • zaybe

Hi Bilal, I almost got it to work! but no luck just yet. I have windows 7; 64 bit. And my WUSB54G ver 4. The closest I got it to work was when I followed “Miko dee’s” technique which was putting the unzipped files in windows/system32/drivers. I then tried to update the drivers for the linksys but an error popped up saying the file needs to be digitally signed?

  • Gareth

thank you so much! Really saving the life of us people who don’t know the specs and don’t have the time to research it to get this working :) And of course those who could never handle a tech savey thing like this in a million years :)

downloading it now to set it up.

    thanks!

  • zaybe

Hey Bilal, did a 3 minute research and answered my own question! I had to disable the signature requirement at boot up by pressing F8 Repeatedly and choose Disable Driver Signature Enforcement. Well THANK YOU FOR DOING ALL THIS!! Hope everybody got it to work.

  • BDSurace

I have extracted the files from your link and have gone to the device manager and found the file myself and tried to link it to the unknown device but it still fails. I don’t understand what I am supposed to do now. I know you said that I should open the setup file and modify it to match the access point information but its all gibberish to me. PLEASE HELP

    • http://www.bilal.ca/ Bilal Jaffery

What version do you own? With my package, its plug and play. No need to modify anything.

Unfortunately, it only works with V4

      • Andrew

        Bilal,

You made my night! Just got a new Windows7 64Bit and was about to lose my Shi* with Linksys when I came upon your package and it worked like a champ!:

Google searched: WUSB54G Windows 7 Driver Download on another PC
        Saved to Thumb Drive
        Installed to Desktop
        Plugged in the WUSBG4G V4
Noted That it Couldnt find the driver and prompted for windows online spam search
Clicked Options and did manual search to desktop
Loaded Bilal’s Package and presto….Online Baby!

Thanks Again! Saved me from throwing in the towel and buying new hub and adapters. Much Appreciated!

BTW, would new hub/adapters do anything for me? Doesn’t appear to me that browsing would get any quicker. Using WAP or is it WEP…but some type of encryption.

        Your the Man!

        • http://www.bilal.ca/ Bilal Jaffery

I am personally using WPA-PSK2 and it’s working fairly fast. No complaints
          at all.

Thanks worked great windows 7 64bit offical release
God you think Linksys would get off there lazy ass and fix this.
    thanks Bilal.

  • Frank

Thanks – you just saved me from buying a new adapter! For a couple of days there I was a lost soul disappointed with my new Win7

  • Mark

    THANKS!!!
This worked perfectly! Saved me a ton of what would have been a wasted time. Mark

  • BrimstoneVomit

Bilal, you are a marvelous bastard and I couldn’t appreciate the time and effort you put into this driver enough. For five months since getting my new PC (starting with Vista 64 and updating to Windows 7), I’ve had to haul my computer up and downstairs to plug the modem in directly every time family visits and leaves.

And considering that an unaffiliated individual such as yourself worked up a fix before Linksys or Microsoft, it seems apparent how lazy they are. Or greedy, if they leave us hanging on the need to purchase more recent hardware.

  • Cloud Wang

Could you pls release a driver package for Win7 X86 version, 32bit ? Thank you!

  • Anonymous

Can you explain how to modify the setup folder/how to install this?
I have been trying my hardest and cannot figure it out.

  • Rick

Thanks! The driver seems to work great! This saved me from having to buy a new wireless adapter.

  • Jarom Jones

Your patched driver worked great for me. I am running Windows 7 64.
    Thanks!
    Jarom

  • Keisuke

I right-click the INF file to install this, but it says that “the INF file you selected does not support this method of installation.”

How am I supposed to install this?

    • John

Select the folder and let windows do its stuff

  • John

Thank you very much. Just used the driver on Win 7 Pro 64 and its working.

  • Phil

Thanks – nice and easy for a technical dimwit like myself, worked perfectly first time. As you say, should have been done by linkys…

This works great on Windows 7 64bit! Thank you so much.

  • BIGD

Bless you dude! Its December 19th and after hours of serching Bs on the Linksys site I found this!
Hacked or not at least its a shot at getting this WUSB%$G to work without a ton of hassle.
I should be appaled by the lack of support @ Cisco/Linksys but then I ‘am reminded that they have a hardware
    busines to support as well.

    You need a tip jar.

    Many thanks,

    BIGD

  • Steve S

Thanks! I just upgraded my XP 32 system to Windows 7 64. Everything went smoothly until I came to my Linksys Wireless adapter. Found this site, downloaded your package, and it works like a charm. Thanks again! This was a huge help!

  • Tom

I’ve tried all the different pathways in the Update Driver wizard without success.

“Search for driver software in this location” says “Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date” — even though there’s no driver for Unknown Device.

“Have Disk” and pointing it to the RT2500usb.inf file says “The folder you specified doesn’t contain a compatible software driver for your device… make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems”

I can’t right-click on the INF and install it (then choose from the prepopulated list of installed drivers ) because “The INF file you have selected does not support this method of installation”

Would appreciate any assistance you can provide.

    Adapter is WUSB54G ver 4
Using Windows 7 Ultimate build 7600

Bilal – many many thanks for the driver. I was getting pretty frustrated until I stumbled across this page. It worked perfect the first time.

Thank god these drivers worked. Evidently these are the only ones that will work on Windows 7, otherwise my girlfriend would not have internet since her computer is in the other room. Thanks a bunch!

Hey, I installed this driver and now i’m getting blue screens, pointing to WUSB54Gv4x64…. according to dumpchk. any ideas on what i can do? i have v4 of wusb54g, and Windows 7 x64. Thanks.

    • http://www.bilal.ca/ Bilal Jaffery

Some other driver must be conflicting. Over 13K installs and this is the first time I’m hearing this.

Check the USB port, wiring etc.

  • Anonymous

Hey thanks for taking the time to make this program. By any chance would it be possible to make a similar fix for USB54G v1? If you don’t have time I understand, but then could you then tell me how I could possibly approach it?

        Bilal,

I am not computer savy and do not know how to install this driver. I do not understand what i have to do? I installed widows 7 64 ultimate. Saved your file to a flash drive, imported in on my windows 7 computer. What do i do now?

All i see are 3 rt2500usb files types of security catalog, setup information, and system file.

        What do i do now?

  • Mojotron

Just wanted to say that windows update will find a driver that works for this adapter, however, I’ve been getting 1 – 2 BSoD’s related to the adapter, daily. I did read somewhere that Ralink’s drivers solves this problem in some situations, but I couldn’t get it to work. This package does work so hopefully the BSoD’s will be gone with it. Thanks.

Thank you very much for your help.
