Good Idea! , could you add my company Jezzper Consulting (we are a Business Partner) ?

No. I’m not on Facebook and have no intention of ever going there. I don’t want to park my company profile in the same trailer park as thousands of underage girls discussing Justin Timberlake. I think it’s great that they have a safe place to talk but I don’t see how Facebook is relevant to my business. We’ve got Planet Lotus and Blogs and IBM Partnerworld and IBM Forums and Linked-In yada yada yada. What would Facebook add?

Graham: You should read Scobleizer’s commentary on some of facebook’s latest moves: http://scobleizer.com/2009/03/21/why-facebook-has-never-listened-and-why-it-definitely-wont-start-now/

Facebook is undergoing significant, and intentional growth that is aimed at growing a business model. Ignoring that potential is fine for now, but its a market, and its growing. I disagree with your stance on a “trailer park (with) thousands of underage girls”, but even if that were true, those girls will soon grow up to be tomorrows business leaders.

I have to say that I myself am on Facebook, and likely only have one or two underage girls in my network (both of which are cousins). 99% of the rest of my network consist of friends of mine from the University of Toronto, friends from high school who now work at companies like Microsoft and Google, and colleagues from work. The magic of Facebook is that they know who you are, possibly where you work, and whether you’re part of the Justin Timberlake forum. This allows potential advertisers to use this information. It’s not only an open and receptive audience, but also one that has been profiled, sorted and targeted unlike any other audience in history. Remember, many businesses probably said the exact same thing you’re saying now about the Internet as a whole :) Social media is definitely here to stay, and businesses will definitely be part of and benefit from its future.
