scribblings about earning influence in the era of social web

Lotus Knows this was my perfect end to the decade

Lotus Knows Bilal became a father this December of a cute gorgeous baby boy. It has been a truly humbling experience, a life changing moment, a profound experiential realizing of one’s true nature as a father.

As some of you know, I’ve been meaning to find some time get on a computer and write this entry but the new-born has been keeping us way too focused on him. With no energy to even get on the computer or even eat properly, the only time I was able to find was spent on attending some final Lotusphere planning calls and working on some on the #ls10 agenda. Lotus Knows that I worked during my vacation with baby in my hand. (Ok, he was in my wife’s arms.)

But you will not find me complaining. As much as I dread waking up every hour for no reason, everytime I pick him up, my heart fills up with joyful feeling that I can’t describe. This feeling cannot really be described with words, nor brought about through words.

With the birth of my child, I had also decided to try an experiment and keep the birth of my new born as ‘offline’ as possible without offending my close network. I’ve shared some pictures of the baby boy on twitter and facebook but have purposely not published them publically.

So, any of you, who I’ve not sent the pics, please don’t be offended. Please ping me and I’ll gladly send them, even if I am not on the computer. (Perfect ad for a blackberry) Mr. Ayaan Jaffery was born on December 17th at 3.21PM.

However, I am keeping his pics away from my blog. =) (With over 4000 hits/week from Microsoft.com domain, just can’t trust them here.)

Perfect End to the Decade

Eventhough this year has been less than ideal for most of us, this was my truly perfect end to the decade. This decade we are now ending will be remembered as the time when the web became social. It took us almost a decade once the web became commercial, but we figured out how to make people the atomic element of the web. And now we get to build social gathering places on the web. From Facebook, LinkedIN, Xing to Twitter and others. It is bringing us back to our true roots — which is to connect, care and be cared for and to live and be happy in the process.

He is a letter to everyone. You open it. It says, ‘Live!’ ~ Rumi

This brings me to the note by Jeanette Leblanc that I recently posted on my micro-blog on posterous – http://bitesized.bilal.ca.

Go now, and Live… Experience. Dream. Risk. Close your eyes and jump. Enjoy the freefall. Choose exhilaration over comfort. Choose potential over safety. Wake up to the magic of everyday life. Make friends with your intuition. trust your gut. Discover the beauty of uncertainty. Know yourself fully before making promises to another. Make millions of mistakes so that you will know how to choose what you really need. Know when to hold on and when to let go. Love hard and often and without reservation. Seek knowledge. Open yourself to possibility. Keep your heart open, you head high, and your spirit free. Embrace your darkness along with your light. Be wrong every once in a while, and don’t be afraid to admit it. Awaken to the brilliance in ordinary moments. Tell the truth about yourself no matter what the cost. Own your reality without apology. See good ness in the world. Be Bold. Be Firece. Be Grateful. Be Wild, Crazy, and Gloriously Free. Be You… Go now, and Live.

May you be the best end of the decade and Happy new Years! See you at Lotusphere 2010!
